Australian Alexei Popyrin defeated Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov, the No 7 seed, with a score of 4-6, 7-6 (5), 6-3 to advance to the quarter-finals of the Montreal Masters at Stade IGA.
Popyrin, who is currently ranked No 62, is set to face either French qualifier Arthur Rinderknech or Polish player Hubert Hurkacz, the No 4 seed, in the next round.
Earlier in the competition, Popyrin secured victories against Tomas Machac (6-3, 6-4) and American Ben Shelton, the No 11 seed (6-4, 7-6 (4)).
Dimitrov, ranked No 10, emerged victorious against Australian qualifier Rinky Hijikata (6-1, 6-0) in the previous round of the Rogers Cup.
