Pros and Cons to the Green Bay Packers Targeting Julio Jones After Trading Davante Adams | flipsidesports.net

Fans are split on the decision from Packers head coach Mike McCarthy to move up in last year’s NFL draft and select WR Davante Adams, before trading him for Julio Jones. While some believe this was an act of desperation driven by lack of talent at QB Aaron Rodgers’ disposal, others claim it will pay off down the road when Green Bay is a Super Bowl contender again. Regardless, we’ll have to wait until 2020 to see how things shake out.

The “davante adams height” is a question that has been asked many times. The Packers have traded for Julio Jones and the pros and cons of the trade are discussed here.

The Green Bay Packers are in need of an experienced receiver, and Julio Jones, a seven-time Pro Bowler, is looking for employment.

The two should theoretically be a perfect match. After the Packers abruptly dealt Davante Adams, perhaps the game’s best wideout, to the Las Vegas Raiders for several draft selections, Aaron Rodgers would greatly benefit from having a battle-tested receiver in his arsenal. Despite the fact that Jones will play all of next season at the age of 33, he may still have something left in the tank following an injury-shortened 2021 season.

Should the Packers sign Jones now that Adams has left? The solution isn’t as straightforward as one may believe.

After the Davante Adams deal, Julio Jones would be a nice experienced presence.

Jones’ credentials speak for themselves, particularly after hauling in 623 receptions, 9,388 yards, and 37 touchdowns from 2014 to 2019; that’s a 104-catch, 1,565-yard, 6-touchdown average, which is why he can expect to be considered for the Pro Football Hall of Fame when he becomes eligible.

Jones has seen the highs of playoff campaigns as well as the lows of several losing seasons. He also watched up close the Atlanta Falcons’ iconic Super Bowl 51 collapse, which is about as bad as it gets in this case.

Nobody is predicting an 80-catch, 1,000-yard season for the Packers in 2022 based on Jones’ previous success and domination. His seasoned presence, on the other hand, would undoubtedly carry over, and it would be especially appreciated if Green Bay eventually wises up and drafts a young receiver in the first round of the April draft.

The Packers need a player who has spent time in the NFL and has seen and done it all. Jones matches that description wonderfully, and even if his greatest days are behind him, he’d be a welcome addition to the locker room.

Cons: Jones isn’t getting any younger, and he hasn’t looked like himself in over a year.

Jones won second-team All-Pro accolades in 2019 and, after a solid age-30 season, was poised to continue his exceptional performance into the 2020s.

Reality, on the other hand, hasn’t been so kind.

Injuries limited Jones to 51 receptions, 771 yards, and three touchdowns in his last season with the Falcons in 2020. After joining the Tennessee Titans last season, he seemed sluggish, with just 31 receptions, 434 yards, and a solitary score in ten games. Late in the season, though, he showed flashes of life, catching six passes for 62 yards in the Titans’ AFC Divisional Round defeat to Joe Burrow and the surprising Cincinnati Bengals.

There’s no assurance that if the Packers sign Jones, he’ll be a solid No. 2 receiver at this point in his career. Even though Ryan Tannehill struggled with turnovers at times during the season, it’s impossible to pin last year’s problems on quarterback performance.

The Titans would not have released Jones less than a year after giving two draft selections to the Falcons if they believed in his prospects of a comeback season.

Jones resembled Hall of Fame receiver Terrell Owens in his heyday, terrorizing defenders in the late 1990s and early 2000s. Jones, unlike Owens, steered clear of drama and controversy. He was — and continues to be — a player who goes to great lengths to win games and keep the focus on the team rather than himself.

It could be time for Jones to follow in the footsteps of Owens once again.

Owens agreed for one-year contracts with the Buffalo Bills and Cincinnati Bengals late in his career. He wanted to play, and he wanted to win a Super Bowl, so he made a compromise and accepted less money than he had planned for. Despite his advanced age and penchant for the limelight, the All-Pro wideout remained a valuable asset to both teams well into his late 30s.

Jones should definitely consider joining the Packers if he is prepared to settle for a one-year contract. Jones, even if he isn’t the All-Pro player he was in the late 2010s, can fill that position if he stays healthy. If the veteran wideout stumbles or can’t stay healthy, a one-year, $5 million contract won’t hurt the Packers.

Sooner rather than later, Green Bay will need to locate a good experienced receiver. Jones fits all the boxes, and he’ll probably come cheap, which should pique the Packers’ interest even more.

Isn’t it true that the Packers still have Davante Adams?
