Russell Wilson Takes Another Glaringly Obvious Step Toward His Imminent Seahawks Departure

Russell Wilson has been on the Seattle Seahawks for five seasons, but he seems to want out. The quarterback is making it clear that his agent will not sign a contract extension with the team until they either trade him or release him next year.

Russell Wilson is a quarterback for the Seattle Seahawks. He’s one of the most popular players in the NFL and has been with the team since 2012. He’s also taking another step toward his imminent departure from the team, which he announced on Wednesday. Read more in detail here: who is russell wilson.

Russell Wilson’s Seattle Seahawks are on the verge of missing the playoffs for the second year in a row. The Seahawks’ dismal season has ushered in yet another summer of conjecture over Wilson’s future. Along those lines, the star quarterback may have taken yet another decisive step toward leaving Seattle.

The Seahawks are no longer in contention for the playoffs.

The Seahawks got embroiled in speculation over Wilson’s future months before the 2021 season.

Wilson’s vehement statements lingered for weeks, prompting speculation of an inside feud between Wilson and Pete Carroll over the latter’s aggressive offensive style. As the two sides tried to be on the same page, the outside noise faded.

The Seahawks’ exit from the postseason picture has reignited speculation, although mostly due to Wilson’s absence. With his public comments on his future in Seattle, the 33-year-old has been true to form.

But the same cannot be said for his next deal, which might reveal his actual objectives.

Russell Wilson takes yet another glaringly clear step toward his impending exit from the Seahawks.

Wilson’s long-term future has become more prominent as a result of the Seahawks’ difficulties.

He’s in the second year of a four-year, $140 million contract that will keep him in the league until 2023. Wilson is under contract with Seattle for the next several seasons, but according to CBS Sports’ Jason La Canfora, the great quarterback is unlikely to sign another deal with the Seahawks.

“With just two years left on his contract, quarterback Russell Wilson’s chances of getting a new deal are slim to none,” La Canfora said. “Another tumultuous offseason awaits the future Hall of Fame quarterback and a Seahawks team that may be on the verge of a rebuild.”

Given the team’s current state, it’s difficult to see Wilson committing to several seasons. His next deal would start when he was 36 years old, reinforcing the internal focus on making the most of his remaining career.

The Seahawks have stayed competitive, but the team seems to be on the verge of a rebuild. That is troubling in and of itself, considering that the remainder of the NFC West has teams capable of making the playoffs. It suggests that he’ll have to continue to carry a substantial portion of the load as the Seahawks quest for the playoffs.

The eight-time Pro Bowler would not back down from the task, but the front staff has yet to shown its ability to develop another Super Bowl contender. All of these elements indicate that he may be receptive to a change of environment in order to compete for titles.

Russell Wilson is expected to be pursued by a number of clubs, including the Saints.

As the Seahawks inch closer to missing the playoffs, trade rumors will gain momentum.

Wilson’s desire to play in the Super Bowl may cause him to seriously contemplate playing elsewhere, and Seattle will be consumed in rumors. The Chicago Bears, Dallas Cowboys, Las Vegas Raiders, and New Orleans Saints were among the teams on his agent’s list of favorite landing locations last offseason.

These teams, in addition to the Cowboys, might make a serious push to sign Wilson. Because of their quarterback dilemma, many have already highlighted the Saints as the most probable landing location. Before his season-ending injury, Jameis Winston failed to establish consistency, and Taysom Hill and Trevor Siemian haven’t been game-changers.

It’s worth noting that the Saints tried to sign Matthew Stafford before he was traded to the Los Angeles Rams. If Wilson becomes available, the Saints are expected to put everything on the table. Other clubs will almost probably make a move to land the future Hall of Fame quarterback.

All of this points to a potentially transformative offseason in Seattle.
