Russian Diana Shnaider advanced to the last 16 of the Western & Southern Open after defeating American qualifier Ashlyn Krueger 7-5, 6-0 at the Lindner Family Tennis Center in Cincinnati on Thursday evening.
Currently ranked No 20, Shnaider will face Canadian Leylah Fernandez in the next round.
The 20-year-old Russian also recently defeated Chinese Shuai Zhang (6-1, 6-4) prior to her latest win.
In the previous round of the Cincy Open, Krueger, ranked No 65, defeated Croat Donna Vekic, the No 16 seed (5-7, 7-6 (4), 6-2).
