Diana Shnaider, the No 14 seed, pulled off a thrilling victory over No 6 seed Liudmila Samsonova with a 4-6, 6-1, 6-4 win to advance to the semi-finals of the Toronto Masters at the Aviva Centre on Sunday night.
Currently ranked No 24, Shnaider is set to face No 3 seed Jessica Pegula in the next round.
Shnaider’s journey to the semi-finals included wins over Harriet Dart (6-3, 3-6, 7-6 (2)), Magdalena Frech (2-6, 6-3, 7-6 (5)), and top seed Coco Gauff (6-4, 6-1).
In earlier rounds of the Rogers Cup, Samsonova, ranked No 13, secured victories against Moyuka Uchijima (6-4, 6-2) and Elise Mertens (6-2, 6-4).
