Australian Jordan Thompson, seeded No. 4, advanced to the final of the Atlanta Open after defeating Chinese qualifier Juncheng Shang 6-3, 4-6, 6-3 at the Atlanta Athletic Club on Saturday.
Thompson, ranked 41st, will now await the winner of the match between Japanese Yoshihito Nishioka and Frenchman Arthur Rinderknech.
The Australian previously defeated French lucky loser Harold Mayot (6-2, 7-5) and Spaniard Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, the No. 5 seed (7-6 (5), 4-6, 6-3) on his way to the final.
In earlier rounds of the Atlanta Open, Shang, ranked 89th, secured wins against American wildcard Andres Martin (6-1, 6-1), top seed American Ben Shelton (7-6 (6), 6-4), and Australian Max Purcell, seeded eighth (7-6 (3), 6-4).
