American Frances Tiafoe, the No 5 seed, emerged victorious against Colombian Daniel Elahi Galan with a score of 6-7 (8), 6-3, 6-3 to advance to the round of 16 at the Citi Open held at the William H.G. FitzGerald Tennis Center in Washington on Tuesday night.
Tiafoe, who is currently ranked No 29, is set to face the winner of the match between Spaniard Roberto Carballes Baena, the No 11 seed, and American Aleksandar Kovacevic in the next round.
In the previous round of the Washington D.C. tournament, Galan, ranked No 124, defeated American qualifier Maxime Cressy with a score of 6-4, 6-3.
