Urban Meyer Has Followed the Tim Tebow Disaster by Continuing a Disturbing Trend

Urban Meyer has followed the Tim Tebow disaster by continuing a disturbing trend. The Ohio State coach is now in his third season with the Buckeyes, and he has yet to win a Big Ten title or an outright conference championship.

Urban Meyer, the head coach of Ohio State Buckeyes football team, has followed the Tim Tebow disaster by continuing a disturbing trend. The Washington Post reported that Meyer was reprimanded for his behavior during a game against Penn State in 2016. Read more in detail here: urban meyer nfl.

To say the least, Urban Meyer’s transition to the NFL has not gone as planned.

Meyer, the Jaguars’ newest head coach, has been dogged by controversy and criticism from the moment he walked onto an NFL practice field. Meyer’s career seems to be on the decline, with terrible draft choices, the acquisition of Tim Tebow, poor play-calling, and full-fledged whispers of his departure.

If his most recent choice is any indication, the former Florida Gator has no plans to change his ways anytime soon.

Trey Burton, a former Gator, was invited in by the Jaguars for a tryout.

The Jaguars, who are short on tight ends, worked out Trey Burton, who formerly played for the Eagles, Bears, and Colts.

Burton was a member of Urban Meyer’s Florida football team.

Right from the start, it’s important pointing out that Trey Burton is a competent tight end. Over the course of his seven-year NFL career, he had 159 receptions for 1,532 yards. Burton played for the Philadelphia Eagles, Chicago Bears, and Indianapolis Colts, among other teams.

Burton is most known for his part in the Eagles’ Super Bowl 52 “Philly Special” play. He was the one who threw the game-winning touchdown throw to Nick Foles, securing Philadelphia’s first-ever Super Bowl victory.

Burton makes sense on paper if the Jaguars are looking for tight end depth. He’s a seasoned veteran who’s shown capable of playing in a variety of NFL systems. He’s also just 29 years old, so he could theoretically stay in Jacksonville for a few more seasons.

The reasoning behind Meyer’s decision to offer Burton a tryout, on the other hand, is very worrisome. Meyer is still acting like he’s in college, to put it simply.

There’s nothing wrong with bringing in a successful college coach to run your NFL franchise. However, there’s always the possibility that they won’t be able to adapt. Chip Kelly, for example, enjoyed early success with the Eagles before fizzling out and being dismissed as a result of his harsh attitude to players.

We’re only two games into the 2021 season, but early indications are that Meyer will suffer a similar fate.

The Tim Tebow fiasco has been widely chronicled up to this point, but it’s worth reiterating how much of a disaster it was. During training camp, Tebow took up a key Jaguars roster slot only to wind up on First Take with Stephen A. Smith. With Jacksonville already low on TE depth, wasting time on Tebow over the summer seems to be a bad idea.

Meyers’ first few personnel decisions also created an image of someone who wants to operate a college-style offense in the NFL. He took Travis Etienne, a running back, in the first round and tried to convert him to wide receiver. It was an odd choice, particularly given the Jaguars’ poor offensive line.

Etienne will miss the rest of the season due to a foot ailment that is not Meyer’s fault. The Jaguars, on the other hand, are sure to yearn for a do-over on that selection.

Burton is the most recent victim of Urban Meyer’s anti-Florida stance.

The Jaguars’ TE room would likely benefit from Burton’s addition. That doesn’t change the fact that he was given a tryout mainly because of his Florida ties.

Meyer has often shown that he intends to manage the Jaguars like a college team, with favorites and reliance on previous connections. In the NFL, this approach does not function.

Perhaps Burton will sign with the Jaguars. Perhaps he doesn’t. Meyer, on the other hand, has yet to get his NFL wake-up call, as shown by this ostensibly insignificant audition. Perhaps a few more defeats will force him to change his ways.
