The No 12 seed, American Taylor Fritz, advanced to the semi-finals of the US Open by beating the No 4 seed, German Alexander Zverev, 7-6 (2), 3-6, 6-4, 7-6 (3) at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in New York on Tuesday evening.
Fritz, ranked No 12, will face the winner of the match between the No 9 seed, Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov, and the No 20 seed, American Frances Tiafoe, in the next round.
American Taylor Fritz defeated Camilo Ugo Carabelli from Argentina (7-5, 6-1, 6-2), Matteo Berrettini from Italy (6-3, 7-6 (1), 6-1), Francisco Comesana from Argentina (6-3, 6-4, 6-2), and the No 8 seed, Casper Ruud from Norway (3-6, 6-4, 6-3, 6-2) in the previous rounds of the US Open.
On the other hand, Alexander Zverev, ranked No 4, won against lucky loser Maximilian Marterer (6-2, 6-7 (5), 6-3, 6-2), French wildcard Alexandre Muller (6-4, 7-6 (5), 6-1), Tomas Martin Etcheverry from Argentina (5-7, 7-5, 6-1, 6-3), and American Brandon Nakashima (3-6, 6-1, 6-2, 6-2) in earlier rounds.
