Why the Baltimore Ravens Must Win the Coveted Bobby Wagner Sweepstakes

The Baltimore Ravens have a lot of questions in the starting secondary, but Wagner is arguably one of their most important ones. The 25-year old has been to six Pro Bowls and led Seattle for over 130 consecutive games before getting injured last year. He’s also Seahawks franchise player with two years remaining on his contract. Should the team let him walk? It seems they’re ready to move on while still trying to keep him around in trade talks this offseason, which could be costly unless they get serious about winning free agency—and that starts by securing Bobby Wagner as soon as possible so he remains available at a reasonable price point..

The “Baltimore Ravens NFL” is a professional American football team based in Baltimore, Maryland. They are members of the North Division of the American Football Conference (AFC) in the National Football League (NFL). The team was founded in 1996 and began play that year as an expansion team. The Baltimore Ravens have been quite active in the offseason of 2022. General manager Eric DeCosta and the front office have signed safety Marcus Williams, defensive lineman Michael Pierce, and offensive tackle Morgan Moses in free agency to improve year over year. Baltimore is now chasing Bobby Wagner with vigour.

After spending ten seasons with the Seattle Seahawks, the veteran linebacker was unexpectedly dismissed. Wagner is still a good player and a leader on and off the court, despite the fact that he is beyond his peak.

Za’Darius Smith was just released by the Ravens. Winning the Bobby Wagner sweepstakes, on the other hand, may be able to mend all scars.

Bobby Wagner is being actively pursued by the Ravens.

The Baltimore Ravens have a number of critical issues to address heading into the offseason. The offensive line, defensive line, and secondary were at the top of the list. The defense, though, needs a strong second inside linebacker to complement Patrick Queen. Since being released by the Seahawks, Bobby Wagner has been on the team’s radar.

When the eight-time Pro Bowler became available as a free agent, he drew attention from a number of competing clubs. The Baltimore Ravens and the Los Angeles Rams, on the other hand, figure to be the frontrunners.

According to reports, the Rams are making a serious push to sign Wagner to help them repeat as Super Bowl champs. John Harbaugh’s team, on the other hand, isn’t going down without a fight.

According to CBS Sports insider Josina Anderson, Baltimore has a “very competitive” offer on the table and feels good about its chances to land Wagner.

This may be Eric DeCosta’s greatest summer ever if he can outlast the Rams and get Bobby Wagner.

The addition of Wagner might help Baltimore’s defense regain its supremacy.

In 2021, the Ravens took a huge step back. After making the playoffs for three years in a row, they finished with an 8-9 record. Despite the fact that injuries played a major factor in the team’s troubles, the result was disappointing.

Baltimore was ranked 19th in the league in team defense, allowing 363.4 yards and 23 points per game. Against the pass, the unit came in dead last. The Ravens are known for having a strong defense, but that was not the case in 2021. Mike Macdonald, who turned Michigan’s defense around in a single season, took over as defensive coordinator when Wink Martindale was dismissed.

Macdonald must have been ecstatic when the Ravens were able to sign Marcus Williams as a free agent. With Chuck Clark at safety, the former New Orleans Saints great gives this defense a ballhawk. Baltimore might make another formidable position duo if Bobby Wagner is acquired.

Patrick Queen is entering his third season in the NFL. The LSU graduate has the tools to be great, but he still has to work on his game. Wagner seems to be the ideal running back partner for a young linebacker. He’s coming off a season with 170-tackles, which was a down year for him. Sure, he’s 31, but he’s a Super Bowl winner and, more importantly, he’s probably more driven today than he’s ever been.

It’s dangerous to add Wagner to a group that already includes Williams, Queen, Marcus Peters, Marlon Humphrey, Odafe Oweh, and Michael Pierce.

If the All-Pro linebacker picks the Rams, where will the front office turn?

Even if the Ravens believe they have a strong offer for Bobby Wagner, the Los Angeles Rams are likely to match it. The Super Bowl champs can give him something the Ravens can’t: home field advantage. Wagner was born and raised in Los Angeles. He was able to remain on the West Coast by starting his career in Seattle. Obviously, playing in a city on the East Coast will be a challenge.

Eric DeCosta and the Rams must have a backup plan if Wagner rejects Baltimore and accepts the Rams’ offer. The pool of available free agents is shrinking. However, there are a few names worth keeping an eye on. Veteran players like Kwon Alexander, Kyle Van Noy, and Dont’a Hightower may fit in well at the proper price.

DeCosta may also go the safe option and target the position in the NFL Draft in 2022. The Ravens are unlikely to draft an inside linebacker in the first round, but they have enough selections to move up if a guy they like falls to them. Channing Tindall of Georgia, Leo Chenal of Wisconsin, and Darrian Beavers of Cincinnati all make sense as Day 2 prospects.

However, filling the hole with the draft isn’t ideal. Bobby Wagner has Super Bowl experience, something the Ravens want to achieve in 2022.
