Paula Badosa of Spain advanced to the quarter-finals of the Western & Southern Open after defeating Yulia Putintseva of Kazakhstan with a score of 6-4, 6-4 at the Lindner Family Tennis Center in Cincinnati on Friday night.
Badosa, who is ranked No 37, will face the winner of the match between Qinwen Zheng of China, the No 7 seed, and Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova of Russia.
Earlier in the tournament, Badosa secured victories against American wildcard Peyton Stearns (6-2, 7-5) and Russian Anna Kalinskaya, the No 13 seed (6-3, 6-2).
In previous rounds of the tournament, Putintseva, ranked No 33, won against qualifier Harriet Dart (4-6, 6-0, 6-1) and defeated American Coco Gauff, the second seed (6-4, 2-6, 6-4).
