Argentina’s Nadia Podoroska, seeded No. 4, advanced to the semi-finals of the Barranquilla Open by defeating Georgia’s Mariam Bolkvadze 6-4, 6-3 on Thursday night.
Ranked No. 88, Podoroska will be up against Ukrainian Anastasiya Sobolieva in the next round.
Podoroska also emerged victorious against China’s Xiaodi You (6-2, 6-2) and Xinyu Gao (6-1, 2-0 ret.) before reaching the semi-finals.
Earlier in the tournament, Bolkvadze, ranked No. 234, defeated Russia’s Maria Timofeeva (3-6, 7-6 (1), 6-0) and then took down Frenchwoman Elsa Jacquemot, the No. 8 seed (6-7 (4), 7-6 (4), 7-6 (3)).
