Wildcard McCartney Kessler secured a spot in the quarter-finals of the Cleveland Open by defeating No. 4 seed Xinyu Wang from China with a score of 3-6, 6-4, 6-2 at Jacobs Pavilion on Wednesday.
Kessler, holding the No. 98 rank, is set to compete against Arantxa Rus from the Netherlands in the next round.
Before this triumph, the American player narrowly defeated wildcard Katrina Scott with a score of 6-1, 4-6, 6-4.
Wang, ranked No. 37, emerged victorious against Russian player Anna Blinkova with a score of 6-1, 6-1 in the previous round of the Cleveland tournament.
