Jaqueline Cristian, the No. 3 seed, advanced to the quarterfinals of the Iasi Open by defeating wildcard Elena-Gabriela Ruse 6-4, 6-7 (1), 6-2 at the Ciric Sports Base on Tuesday.
Cristian, currently ranked No. 61, will now face the No. 5 seed Elina Avanesyan from Russia in the next round.
Prior to her victory, Cristian also won against Italian lucky loser Nuria Brancaccio with a scoreline of 6-2, 6-4.
Ruse, ranked No. 147, had previously defeated Russian player Anastasia Tikhonova (6-3, 5-7, 6-1) in the earlier round of the Iasi tournament.
