American McCartney Kessler emerged victorious against Japanese qualifier Ena Shibahara with a score of 6-4, 6-1 to progress to the second round of the Osaka Open at the Utsubo Tennis Center on Monday night.
Kessler, who is ranked No. 76, is set to face the winner of the match between German lucky loser Eva Lys and Colombian Camila Osorio in the next round.
