On Thursday evening, Ukrainian Anastasiya Sobolieva defeated Slovak Viktoria Hruncakova 6-4, 6-7 (3), 6-2 to secure a spot in the semi-finals of the Barranquilla Open.
Sobolieva, ranked No 216, will now face the winner of the match between Georgian Mariam Bolkvadze and Argentinian Nadia Podoroska, the No 4 seed.
The 20-year-old Ukrainian emerged victorious against Colombian wildcard Maria Paulina Perez Garcia (6-1, 6-0) and Slovak qualifier Martina Okalova (6-4, 7-5) before her latest win.
Earlier in the tournament, Hruncakova, ranked No 233, defeated Australian Destanee Aiava (6-2, 6-4) and American Emina Bektas, the No 5 seed (7-5, 7-6 (4)).
