Antonia Ruzic, a Croatian player ranked No 185, advanced to the quarter-finals of the Barranquilla Open by defeating American Varvara Lepchenko 3-6, 6-2, 6-3 on Thursday night. Ruzic will now face Argentinian Solana Sierra in the next round. In her previous match, the 21-year-old Croat also defeated Colombian Emiliana Arango, the No 7 seed, with a score of 6-2, 6-4. Meanwhile, Lepchenko, ranked No 178, advanced to the quarter-finals after Bulgarian Gergana Topalova retired during their match with a score of 6-0, 4-1.
