Slovak player Rebecca Sramkova defeated Chinese player Xiyu Wang, the No 3 seed, with a score of 7-6 (4), 6-3 to progress to the quarter-finals of the Hungarian Open held at Római Tennis Academy in Budapest.
Ranked 109, Sramkova will now face German player Eva Lys in the next round.
In an earlier match, Sramkova emerged victorious against Romanian qualifier Miriam Bulgaru with a score of 6-3, 4-6, 6-4.
Wang, who is ranked No 54, secured a win against Romanian player Anca Todoni with a score of 7-6 (4), 7-5 in the previous round of the Budapest tournament.
