On Wednesday night at the Abierto Tampico, Canadian qualifier Marina Stakusic pulled off a surprising victory over American Robin Montgomery, the No 7 seed, with a score of 6-4, 7-6 (5). Stakusic, who is ranked at No 140, will now advance to the quarter-finals where she will face the winner of the match between top seed Nuria Parrizas Diaz from Spain and Italian player Lucrezia Stefanini. This win follows Stakusic’s previous victory against Ukrainian qualifier Anastasiya Sobolieva. In the same round, Montgomery, ranked at No 106, had defeated Elizabeth Mandlik with a score of 6-4, 6-2.
