Third-seeded Russian Daria Kasatkina advanced to the quarter-finals of the Tokyo Open after defeating American McCartney Kessler 3-6, 6-3, 6-1 at the Ariake Coliseum on Thursday night.
Kasatkina, currently ranked 9th, will face American wildcard Sofia Kenin in the next round.
In the previous round of the Tokyo tournament, Kessler, ranked 73rd, defeated Italian Elisabetta Cocciaretto 6-3, 6-3.
