Mirra Andreeva advanced to the quarter-finals of the Western & Southern Open by defeating Italian Jasmine Paolini, the No 5 seed, with a score of 3-6, 6-3, 6-2 at the Lindner Family Tennis Center in Cincinnati on Friday afternoon.
Andreeva, who is ranked No 24, will now face top seed Iga Swiatek in the next round.
The 17-year-old Russian defeated American Emma Navarro, the No 11 seed (6-2, 6-2) and Karolina Pliskova (6-2, 6-3) earlier in the tournament.
In the previous round of this WTA Premier 1000 event, Paolini – ranked No 5 – beat Russian Anastasia Potapova (7-6 (2), 6-3).
